Trap Primers
A trap seal primer is a flow control valve that adds water to a P-trap to maintain a water seal, preventing sewer gases from entering a building. There are two types of trap primer valves in our Fluid Controls® product line—The Trap-Defender® Pressure Drop-Activated Trap Primer and Electronic Trap Primers.
Pressure-Drop Trap Primer
Pressure-Drop Trap Primer
Trap-Defender® is a pressure drop-activated trap primer designed to be connected to any potable cold water line. When a valve or faucet is opened and the system experiences as little as a 3 PSI drop in pressure, water is released into the floor drain’s P-trap to maintain the water seal.
Variations:
- Figure No. 2694-UN 1/2" NPT Union
- Figure No. 2694-SW 1/2" Sweat Union
Optional Finishes:
- Chrome-Plated (-CP)
- Nickel-Plated (-NP)
Trap-Defender Features:
- Fully automatic flow control valve; no adjustments needed
- Activates at a pressure drop of just 3 PSI
- Operates at pressures from 20–80 PSI
- With no moving parts, Trap-Defender eliminates the friction associated with pistons or O-rings, greatly increasing the device’s sensitivity and providing better performance when low-flow valves are present
- Patent No. 9,708,808; Patent No. 10,190,306
- Three-year warranty
- Lead-free

Prime up to four traps with the use of a distribution unit (Fig. No. 2694DA • Fig. No. 2683)
Electronic Trap Primers
Electronic Trap Primers
Electronic Trap Primers deliver a timed injection of water to the floor drain P-traps to ensure the traps maintain their water seal.
Tested to ASSE 1044, conforms to UL & CSA standards.
Singular Trap Primer Features:
Singular electronic trap primers can be used to prime 1 to 4 floor drain traps.
- An optional distribution unit can be specified when more than one trap is to be primed
- A factory pre-set, adjustable timer is programmed to provide a water injection to the trap every 24 hours
- Units can be hardwired or operated on a battery pack
- Unit includes solenoid valve, brass air gap, timer module, and control box
- Battery pack can be charged with standard wall transformer (not included)
Flush-Mounted/Recessed (-FM) Trap Primers:
Flush-mounted/recessed electronic trap primers sit flush with the finished wall.
- A multi-port outlet assembly primes 4 to 36 traps
- A factory pre-set, adjustable timer is programmed to provide a water injection to the trap every 24 hours
- The recessed steel mounting enclosure fits between 16-inch studs
- An optional solid cover or access door cover, shut-off valve, solenoid valve, control box, atmospheric vacuum breaker, and copper manifold are provided
Surface-Mounted (-SM) Trap Primers:
Surface-mounted electronic trap primers sit on the finished wall.
- A multi-port outlet assembly primes 4 to 36 traps
- A factory pre-set, adjustable timer is programmed to provide a water injection to the trap every 24 hours
- A steel NEMA Type 1 surface mounted enclosed box, shut-off valve, solenoid valve, control box, atmospheric vacuum breaker, and copper manifold are provided
Push-In Connections (-CTS):
CTS Series electronic trap primers are available in surface-mounted and flush-mounted varieties.
- A multi-port outlet assembly primes 4 to 36 traps.
- A factory pre-set, adjustable timer is programmed to provide a water injection to the trap every 24 hours
- Units are provided with a recessed or surface-mounted enclosure, optional recessed cover, shut-off valve, solenoid valve, control box, atmospheric vacuum breaker, and copper manifold
- The CTS option provides push-in connections for faster installation

Distribution Units
Distribution units allow a single trap primer to service up to four traps by evenly dividing the flow of water among them. Two styles of distribution units are offered in the Smith Fluid Controls® product line: Cloverleaf Style and Branch Style, each with its own unique benefits.
Cloverleaf-Style Distribution Unit
Cloverleaf-Style Distribution Unit
The cloverleaf-style trap primer distribution unit simply and effectively primes up to four floor drains with only one trap priming valve. Unit must be installed level.
- Water leaving the trap primer is divided evenly among outlets
- A variety of outlet types are available: push-in compression and threaded connection
- Lead-free brass or ABS finish
- Patent No. 10,066,378
Cloverleaf-Style with Push-In
Cloverleaf-Style with Push-In
Push-in fittings save labor by eliminating the need for traditional, labor-intensive methods of connecting pipe to fittings. With a push-in fitting, the installer simply pushes the pipe into the fitting to complete the connection.

Branch-Style Distribution Unit
Branch-Style Distribution Unit
The branch-style trap primer distribution unit simply and effectively primes up to four floor drain traps with one trap priming valve.
- Branches are flexible for ease of connection
- Water leaving the trap primer is divided evenly among branches
- A variety of connection types are available

Dielectric Unions
Smith dielectric unions feature an exclusive steel-to-plastic design to protect the plumbing system against corrosion and leakage.
Dielectric Union Features
Dielectric Union Features
- Durable, zinc-coated steel with polypropylene lining interrupts electrical current where dissimilar metals are connected, preventing pipe corrosion and eventual leakage
- Metal-to-metal joint design maintains external electrical continuity, preventing corrosion due to stray current caused by grounding of direct current sources—e.g., phone systems and appliances
- Available in three connection types for flexible installations
- Compliant to ASTM F1545-15a
