Jay R. Smith Mfg. Co. is expanding
Jay R. Smith Mfg. Co. recently added 53,000 sq. ft. of warehouse and manufacturing space to its facility. The completion of this expansion will be the final step in a major renovation of the building’s cafeteria, offices and restroom facilities.
The addition to the warehouse space has been underway for the past several months. With the completion of this expansion, part of Acorn Engineering Company’s Atlanta warehouse will move to Montgomery, increasing shipping efficiency. “Smith and Acorn have many common reps — moving the warehouse will allow both Smith and Acorn products to be shipped utilizing Smith’s existing distribution routes.” noted Jim Widmer, Acorn Engineering’s Vice President of Sales.
The building’s renovation project began in summer 2011 with the cafeteria facility. The area was separated into two parts. A new showroom was built in the first part, showcasing products from all the divisions of Morris Group International. The cafeteria facility received a facelift that included new paint, cabinets and flooring.
The renovation then moved into the building’s office area, where new individual offices were constructed and existing office spaces were transformed with new flooring, paint and workstations. Finally, the building’s existing restroom facilities were torn down and new restrooms featuring Acorn fixtures were constructed in early 2012.
The building renovation and expansion will allow more efficient service to be provided to reps and customers, while providing a pleasant and productive environment for employees and visitors.
